Jerry Lee King, O.D.
Dr. Jerry King, O.D., grew up in Grayson County and graduated from Howe High School. He went to North Texas State University in Denton, TX, and received a Bachelor's degree in education in 1965. He taught high school mathematics for several years and went to East Texas State University (now Texas A&M-Commerce) and received a Master's degree in mathematics in 1970.
In 1977 Dr. King was accepted and enrolled in the optometry school at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He graduated in 1981 with a Doctor of Optometry degree. He practiced in Houston, TX, for almost 20 years, in private practice for most of that time.
In 1992 Dr. King went back and got his therapeutic licence to treat conjuctivitis.
In 2000 Dr. King went back and updated his license to be able to treat and manage glaucoma patients by doing the required coursework and taking the competence examinations. Also in 2000 he left Houston and moved to East Texas and established a practice in Longview, Texas, where he has been for 6 years.
In 2006 Dr. King opened a second office in Emory, Texas, in Rains County, which had no eye doctor at that time. This growing community has welcomed the Vision Site practice with Tammy Reid giving valuable assistance and help in the growth of the practice as manager. We also have another employee, Tiffany Weddle, assisting in the practice.
In 2006 Dr. King applied and was accepted to join the Vision Source of independent eye care practitioners allied under the Vision Source banner. We felt this group would give us a strong network for assistance in training, office procedures and managment, and buying help.
Dr. King is in Emory, Texas, on Tuesday and Thursday. Tammy has the office open Monday through Friday.
Dr. King belongs to the Rains County Lion's Club and the Rains County Chamber of Commerce.
Dr. King is married to Marcia King, who is the office manager for the Longiew office. They have a daughter, Leigh Ann.
Dr. King and Marcia enjoy the outdoors with cycling, fishing, jogging, and participating in fun runs. Dr. King is also a marathon runner.
